Weekly News Bite

This week, we are launching a new program: Teen Game Night! This is slated to happen the fourth Thursday of every month from 6:00PM-8:00PM. It's a chance to hang out and have fun at the Library with friends and new faces. The Library will provide chess and checker boards as well as cards; if you have a game that you like to play, bring it on in! Remember: no gambling is allowed at any time. So meet up with us on Thursday, January 27th in the Delaware Room from 6:00PM-8:00PM!

Don't forget: the Teen Poetry Slam is right around the corner! We will be performing on Monday, February 7th at 6:00PM on the third floor. Join us!

Yu-Gi-Oh! Tournament Winners

The winners for the Winter Yu-Gi-Oh! Tournament are:

Age Bracket One (ages 9-11):

Congratulations to everyone who competed! We had 46 players this session. The next tournament should be sometime in March...watch those calendars!

Saturday Update

Our Get Crafty program on Thursday night was a lot of fun! Ten people joined in the paint, glue and mess to create jeweled boxes to take home. Need some creative ideas? Check out www.diynet.com for inspiration. Want to get crafty with us at the Library for free? Our Get Crafty series is held monthly, every second Thursday. If you have ideas for crafts, drop me a line!

Saturday, January 15th, we will be hosting our Winter Yu-Gi-Oh! Tournament. Keep checking back for the winners of the Winter Tournament as we will post the names this evening.

Don't forget! The Anderson Public Library will be closed this Monday, January 17th, in honor of the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. See you all Tuesday!

Weekly News Bite

It's Wednesday and so far, the rain just won't stop! It's a good time to visit the Anderson Public Library and find a good book or DVD. Don't forget, Thursday, January 13th, we are hosting a Get Crafty Night for Teens at 6:00PM. Bored? Stop on by!

P.S. Thanks to everyone for helping our Teen Open Mic Night be a success! We had 13 people attend...we're hoping to have more, so tell your friends and family about the next Teen Open Mic Night on Monday, February 14th!

Friday Update

The ice and cold has made it really hard to get to the Library this week! This is just a friendly reminder of all the events coming next week:

Monday, January 10th from 6:00PM-8:00PM is Teen Open Mic Night; be ready to perform anything from poetry to drama to dance.

Thursday, January 13th from 6:00PM-8:00PM is Get Crafty for Teens. We'll be using our creatvity (and a little glue) for Make & Takes.

Saturday, January 15th from 1:00PM-4:00PM is our Yu-Gi-Oh! Tournament. Registration is required.

Another Great Read!

One of Those Hideous Books Where the Mother Dies by Sonya Sones

Ruby has turned her grief into anger at her father: because he divorced her mother before she was born, because she has had to leave her best friend Lizzie and her boyfriend Ray to come to Los Angeles to live with him, and because he is Whip Logan, a very famous and rich movie star. She turns a cold shoulder to all his gentle and persistent attempts to relate to her, sneers at the glamour of his Beverly Hills mansion and famous friends, and spends most of her time writing desperate emails to Lizzie and Ray, and her dead mother, from her Dream Bedroom. The friendship of Max, Whip's live-in assistant/personal trainer, is some comfort, and Ruby has a harder and harder time keeping her sneer as Whip ups the ante, from rides in his classic vintage cars, to shopping trips for anything she wants, to weekends in Las Vegas and Catalina and a party where Eminem is the guest of honor. But an earthquake leads to a surprising revelation that changes everything for Ruby, in an enormously satisfying ending.

This Week...

Hi everyone! This week has been busy and more events are yet to come. We had our last Teen Poetry Slam Monday Night of 2004; it was a great success! Think you have what it takes to compete? Find out at the next slam Monday, February 7th at 6:30PM in the Delaware Room. Participants must read original material...not a poet? Remember, we always need judges and scorekeepers too.

This Saturday, December 11th, we are celebrating winter solstice with a special Make & Take for teens. Join us in the Delaware Room at 11:00AM for some relaxing fun. Find out what we're making to chase away the winter blues!

Great new book!

A Northern Light by Jennifer Donnelly
